New MCU President Appointed

The Manila Central University (MCU) Board of Trustees announces the appointment of Aristotle T. Malabanan, PhD as the fourth president of MCU effective January 1, 2009. Dr. Malabanan served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Vice President for Academic Affairs prior to his appointment as President and Chief Operating Officer.

He finished his doctoral studies in Education, Major in Educational Leadership and Management at De La Salle University and received a gold medal and recognition for graduating with high distinction on October 2008. He completed a Masters in Management program at the Asian Institute of Management in 1990 and finished a Doctor in Optometry course in MCU in 1979.

He graduated High School at San Beda College in 1975 and Grade School also in San Beda in 1971. Dr. Malabanan built a career in the academe and was involved in MCU’s academic and administrative efforts for nearly thirty years.Since completing his college degree, he got immersed in work experience that will hone his knowledge and skills in managing the educational institution. He firmly believes education is a key to society’s progress and lasting peace.

Dr. Malabanan’s appointment as the fourth president of MCU in 2009 coincides with the institution’s 105th anniversary. After marking its centennial anniversary in 2004, the MCU administration saw an opportunity to undergo an organizational review to set its sight on the coming years and beyond.

Specific programs were built and implemented in research and development, faculty development, enrolment, curriculum review, and a high ranking and firm board performance for its Colleges, among others.

Dr. Malabanan’s academic and management prowess, together with his genuine concern for the development of the institution and all its stakeholders is what MCU needs to face the challenges ahead.

The new management thrust and the MCU 105th anniversary theme “Unity in Overcoming the Challenges” is the boost that the institution needs to further its rich history and track record of success.
